What's it about?

Cade has always been a solo act. She's only seventeen, but she's been surviving alone in the universe as long as she can remember. It's just Cade and her cherry-red guitar, living in a tiny bunker on Andana, a dirty desert planet. The little money she makes is from taking the stage, performing at a seedy club for the local space cases. These people are human, but the years stuck in space gave them space sickness and they begin to lose themselves. Cade has so far been immune to the space sickness and she doesn't know why. Maybe it's the music she plays that keeps her sane, or it could be the static inside of her head, but she knows that at any time she could fall ill to it as well.

One night while she's on stage, the static in her head goes quiet and later, a strange man in a labcoat, who also happens to be a hologram, approaches her backstage. This man, Mr. Niven, has something to tell her that will change the course of her entire life. According to Mr. Niven, Cade, or Cadence, as she was once known as, was created in a lab in the year 3112 and "Entangled" at a subatomic level with a boy name Xan. This is a lot to take in and even more for Cade to understand, but somehow, she knows that this is truth. She hadn't sensed Xan before, but she can now, ever since the static in her head stopped. Once she begins to hear him, she realizes that he is in trouble. Xan has been kidnapped by terrifying creatures known as "Unmakers", and he needs her help. They are also after her, so she has no choice but to make her escape from Andana and take her chances amongst the stars, so she hitches a ride with a group of outlaws who travel in a living space ship and carry unauthorized "messages" throughout the universe between humans who are willing to pay them.

They are all already outlaws, but soon they will become fugitives, and even more than that, they will become friends. No longer alone, Cade now has help on her mission to save Xan. This ragtag group of humans and aliens may be the last hope for the survival of what's left of humanity in the universe.

My Thoughts:

This book was awesome!

This was such a fun sci-fi adventure/Space Opera with a rock n' roll twist. Fans of The Fifth Element and Guardians of the Galaxy, shows like Farscape and Firefly, books like Avalon by Mindee Arnett and Zodiac by Romina Russell or anime like Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star will enjoy Entangled. I love Space Operas, and I take them very seriously. Good world building is a must, and Amy Rose Capetta did a fantastic job making me feel like I was lost amongst the stars while I was reading this. The characters where original and I was able to connect with them and care about them. The story was unique and compelling, and the journey was just a whole lot of funThere was a ton of action, there were plenty of emotional ups and downs, and yes, even a little bit of romance. Besides the breathtaking scenery and the groovy intergalactic adventure, it's also about connecting with others and not feeling quite so alone in the universe. I absolutely love her writing, too! Her words flow like music, giving the whole story a marvelously bizarre, rock n' roll feel.

I'm looking forward to reading the sequel (and conclusion), Unmade, which was released in hardcover in January of this year.

Rock on.
