I can't wait to read...

The Unquiet by Mikaela Everett

Release date: September 22nd, 2015
Publisher: Greenwillow Books

Description from Goodreads:

For most of her life, Lirael has been training to kill—and replace—a duplicate version of herself on a parallel Earth. She is the perfect sleeper-soldier. But she’s beginning to suspect she is not a good person.

The two Earths are identical in almost every way. Two copies of every city, every building, even every person. But the people from the second Earth know something their duplicates do not—two versions of the same thing cannot exist. They—and their whole planet—are slowly disappearing. Lira has been trained mercilessly since childhood to learn everything she can about her duplicate, to be a ruthless sleeper-assassin who kills that other Lirael and steps seamlessly into her life.

An intricate, literary stand-alone from an astonishing new voice, The Unquiet takes us deep inside the psyche of a strong teenage heroine struggling with what she has been raised to be and who she really is. Fans of eerily futuristic and beautifully crafted stories such as Never Let Me Go, Orphan Black, and Fringe will find themselves haunted by this unsettling debut.

Why I'm excited:

Oh, wow...

This sounds good!

Pretty much everything about this book makes me excited to read it. What really got me was that it's more literary and it's a standalone. I do like a good series, but it's good when a single book makes a big impact. I also think this could draw a wider audience, beyond just regular YA readers. I love darker sci-fi, and the comparison to Never Let Me Go, Orphan Black and Fringe really has me intrigued. I have a feeling that The Unquiet is going to make me think, and I like that. Plus, that cover is really cool. I'm guessing that the trees symbolize the two parallel Earths with one house in between because "only one can stay". Goosebumps!

What are you waiting to read?

  2. The Unquiet sounds creepy but I want to read it anyways! I'm curious as to what direction this book will take its character. I always love it when a character question's herself (or himself) and the world she lives in. I'll definitely be anticipating this book as well.

  6. I'm unfamiliar with this book but thanks for bringing it to my attention! Doppelgangers always make for an interesting story. I read one book with a parallel universe, Orenda, but in that one I felt the characters were lacking. I hope you enjoy The Unquiet, it's a new addition to my TBR!

  19. Yess! I've always been fascinated with imagining you did have a twin on a different planet or in a parallel world and them doing the same thing you were doing right that second, freaky to think about so damn, book, damn.

  20. Oooo this sounds creepy Michelle! One of my recurring nightmares is to be replaced by a doppleganger and have absolutely no one realize I'm gone. *shudders* Fantastic pick!
