Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Favorite Books/Series From The Past 5 Years

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks Top Ten topic is "Top Ten Books You Would Classify As ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS from the past 3 years (you can extend it to 5 if you need to)." I'm going to extend it. I'm listing my ten favorite books and series of the last five years. Now, I haven't read every series, so I'm sure there are some out there that could eventually end up as ALL TIME FAVORITES. I also didn't include series that I haven't finished. There are some that I've read the first book or the first two books but haven't finished yet (like the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Mass and Daughter of Smoke and Bone series by Laini Taylor - they could definitely be on this list...oh, heck...I'll make them honorable mentions). I did include three series that are incomplete, with only two of three books released. They are favorites of mine and I'm eagerly awaiting their conclusions. I thought about ten books or series that I recommend to people most. These are the ones I always start with. These have stuck with me the most. There are more, but this list is only ten spaces long. These are really not in any particular order.

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

Mystic City series by Theo Lawrence

I loved the first two books and I am waiting VERY impatiently for book 3. I don't know when it's actual release date is, but I'm going to devour it when it's out.

The Selection series by Kiera Cass

The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

The Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano

The Brokenhearted series by Amelia Kahaney

Starbound series by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi

The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

I just finished reading this and I was truly blown away. It's a stand alone dystopian that made a lasting impression.

None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio

Ok, this one isn't out yet (4/7/15), but when it is, PLEASE read it. It's brilliantly written with such care, it's emotionally stirring and it will make you a better person through understanding.

Honorable Mentions
(because it would be wrong not to include these on this list)

Oh! I know I've left out SO MANY awesome books!

I know I need to READ so many more awesome books!

What are your favorites of the last few years?

  8. I really loved Before I Fall, a lot more than the Delirium trilogy actually! I didn't really love the first book in the Selection trilogy (well, series now since she decided to extend it) but I need to continue it! Maybe I'll enjoy the other books? Under the Never Sky was fantastic as well, Incarnate too! I need to read the other books on your list because I own two of them and the rest are on my must buy list.

  9. Awesome list! The Selection and Wither are so great! I can't wait for None of the Above to come out. It's one of my most anticipated releases! Sadly, my Edelweiss request for it was denied but I can't wait to buy it when it comes out!

    1. The author of None of the Above is a customer in the bookstore I work in. She brought an ARC in for me and she's coming for a signing after it comes out. It's an amazing book.

  14. Awesome list :D The Under the Never Sky trilogy was great, and I absolutely love the rich world and characters of the Grisha trilogy (how excited are you for Leigh Bardugo's new book?!) I'm also incredibly excited for None of the Above. There are a million things I love about YA, but one aspect I really appreciate is how open the genre is to LGBTQIA+ (and I'm especially happy that this one focuses on the often glossed-over intersex community!!) I'm so glad you liked it.
