Top Ten Tuesday: Valentine's Day Edition

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's Top Ten topic is "Ten Things I Like/Dislike When It Comes To Romances In Books". Yikes! Even as I type this I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this topic. I mean, I like everything as long as it's done right. Well, there is one thing I don't like, and that's when one or both members of a couple are jerks. That's just not cool. Other than that, all's fair in love and romance. Love triangles, hate-to-love,  slow building romances, star-crossed love, flirty fighting...it's all good. Insta-love is kind of annoying, but even that can be acceptable on occasion.

So, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, it looks like FIRST I'm just going to list 5 books I recommend cuddling up with on Valentine's day THEN I'll list 5 books I want to cuddle up with on Valentine's Day (books I haven't read yet but would love to read for my V-Day book date). That adds up to ten. That's all that matters.

Five Perfect Books to Cuddle Up With on Valentine's Day

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

If this book doesn't melt your heart then my guess is, you don't have one. This gritty, intense love story will leave you swooning the entire time you're reading it. This book features star-crossed lovers and it's awesome.

This is a sweet and cute story of how two people came together, but it's told by all the people around them. It's a fun book that will leave you feeling good inside.

The Selection by Kiera Cass

The Bachelor meets The Hunger games. If you haven't read this yet, JUST DO IT! Seriously. Now is the time to fall in love with Prince Maxon.

These Broken Stars by Aimee Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

It's like Titanic in space, but instead of the ship sinking and the story ending, this ship crashes and Lilac, a rich girl, and Tarver, a war hero, are left to survive on a dangerous, uninhabited planet. Romance, adventure and plot twists ahead!

Just Like the Movies by Kelly Fiore

A sweet, cute and fun contemporary romance about two girls who've been burned by love and try to make life just like the movies by staging scenes to coax their love interests into being romantic. They quickly realize that sometimes things happen in real life that aren't in the script.

Five Books I Want to Cuddle Up With on Valentine's Day

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I've been wanting to read this for a while and I promise I'll start it soon. I can't wait to see what this love triangle is all about.

The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark

Ice skates and romance. It sounds like a perfect Valentine's Day read.

Loop by Karen Akins

This time travel romance has been on my need-to-read list for a while. I've heard so many wonderful things about it.

Magnolia by Kristi Cook

A Southern-style, love-to-hate romance? Yes, please! I think this would be an excellent choice!

Pushing the Limits series by Katie McGarry
(any of them)

I feel so left out because I haven't read these books yet. I wouldn't mind curling up with one of these this week.

(this totally counts as one, right?)

Have you read any of these?

What do you love or hate about love (in books)?

  2. Great list! Completely agree regarding The Selection, These Broken Stars and Perfect Chemistry. I also enjoy Katie McGarry's books as well. Magnolia was super cute, too. I have never heard of A Little Something Different, so I will have to check that one out.

  4. I really do think it's all down to how a topic is written/handled by the author! I mean, some love-triangles I loath... but others, I completely LOVE! I'm so indecisive, haha, in one book I could love something, and in the next, if it's done badly, I'll hate it!

I loved Loop! I read it a little while ago, and it was so much fun :D I need to read Perfect Chemistry! I've had it on my TBR list forever, but I keep overlooking it. So many amazing books end up getting pushed down the list, and thanks for reminding me of it! It sounds like something I NEED to read ASAP!

    1. Perfect Chemistry is definitely one of my favorite books and probably my favorite romance in books. I know what you mean, though. There are some books that got pushed down the tbr pile that I know are amazing, but it happens!

  5. I like the sound of A Little Something Different. It's a unique way to tell a story, even if not completely new. The Broken Stars sounds like a fun read! Plus, I like the cover. :-)

I haven't read anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout, but I follow her on Twitter, and enjoy her tweets.

Thank you for the recommendations, Michelle!

  6. I'm not a big fan of romance books, though I'm also really excited to read White Hot Kiss and Loop because of the paranormal aspects :)

  7. There are so many of my favourite romance novels here!! Perfect Chemistry was one of the best romances I've ever read- they just work together!:) And the epilogue...;) I'm definitely going to try A Little Something Different!- I've never read a book like that so thanks for recommending it:)
These Broken Stars was stunning- the world building and the romance were done beautifully and Tarver<3
You can never go wrong with Jennifer Armentrout! And I've only read Pushing the Limits from that series but that was enough to show me her prowess at writing romances you love to root for:)
I hope you enjoy them on Valentines Day!

  8. I loved A Little Something Different, These Broken Stars, Pushing the Limits (only read the first two so far) and The Selection. I also really liked Loop, but it's not that much of a romance. More like a really awesome time travel!

I'm with you on White Hot Kiss and Magnolia! I have ebook copies of both, so soon!

  13. YES to Loop! I am reading Twist now, and I adored the romance in Loop so much. It's minimal, but it is amazing.

I want to read so many of these! These Broken Stars, A Little Something Different, and The Selection are all waiting to be read! I should pick one of them up for Valentine's Day, if I finish Twist before then! Great list :)

    1. The first one is the best one! It's not only my favorite in the series, it's one of my all-time favorite books. It's star-crossed romance done right.
