Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Bookish Resolutions For 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Happy New Year to Yinz and Yous!

As 2014 comes to a close, I'm looking back on my year in books and blogging. There were things that I did right and a few things that I could work on. That's why today's Top Ten topic is "ten bookish resolutions for 2015". I'll get right to it because I still have one more book to read to make my Goodreads goal for 2014 and the clock is ticking!

My Bookish Resolutions for 2015:

1) READ FASTER!!

Some people may be saying, "WHAT?!?!!?" But, oh yes, I know I can read faster. It's not my actual speed that I have a problem with, it's the fact that I get distracted very easily by tv, Candy Crush, Facebook, other books, my cats... My reading time is precious and I think I waste too much of it. I need to focus on reading when I'm reading. I bet I can get ten more books read in the year just by focusing more.

2) READ MY SEQUELS!

I am notorious for reading and loving a book, getting excited about the upcoming sequel(s), buying it/them...and NOT READING THEM.

It's not because I don't want to, it's just that:

There are so many shiny new books that I totally get distracted by. I need to make a plan for reading sequels. Maybe I should read one sequel for every two new books, after all, there are a TON of sequels to the books I read in 2014 coming in 2015!

3) START READING SOME OF THE SERIES I HAVE!

I buy a lot of paperbacks that are the first book in a series. I REALLY want to read them (and often feel ashamed that I haven't yet), but they tend to take a back seat to the newer books. Again, I need to make time for them...somehow.

4) READ MY COMPLETED SERIES!

I do this all the time. I buy all the books in a series, set them on the shelf and tell myself I'm going to marathon read them. I should do that. I like reviewing entire series.

5) GET MY eARCs UNDER CONTROL!

I have so many eARCs from Edelweiss and NetGalley on my Kindle. I try and try to get to them all, but honestly, sometimes I forget what I have. I need to keep track somewhere. Maybe make a list of them with release dates. I know, wishful thinking.

6) ORGANIZE MY BOOKS!

My books are a mess! They are piled on every surface, stacked against the walls, crammed into every nook, cranny and cabinet. There are very few on actual shelves, and those that are are in absolutely no particular order. Plus, I moved four years ago and I still have about 100 boxes of books stacked in the basement that I didn't unpack. I would love to organize and shelve as much as I can. The project is colossal, but I'd like to try.

7) POST MORE ON THE BLOG!

Besides reviews, I want to try to post more discussion type things or other book related topics. I also was tagged a few times for award memes and I didn't get around to doing them. Again, the reason for that is because my laptop died and it was really difficult to post from my phone.

8) BE MORE PREPARED!

I hate when I'm scrambling to find a book for Waiting on Wednesday or when I'm trying to wrangle my unwilling cat to take a picture of my book haul with at the the last minute. Waiting until the last minute sucks. I used to have a few WoW posts pre-made and ready to post. I need to do that again now that I have a laptop again. No excuses!

(this post is actually late, lol)

9) WRITE MORE REVIEWS!

I have been posting an average of two reviews a week (except for in December-I've been way too busy with work and all the holiday shenanigans). At the very least I want to maintain the two a week review posting, but I'd like to get a few more in there, as well as more giveaways.

10) GET A TIME TURNER!

I'm pretty sure that's the only way I'll accomplish ALL of these resolutions!

What are your bookish (or otherwise) resolutions for 2015?

  1. Amazon bought Goodreads, so you can upload/integrate your Kindle books to Goodreads easier. You still have to add one at a time but they autoload.

I have a to-read own and a to-read kindle shelf in Goodreads. That way if I need to see if I have something, I look on Goodreads, and it'll show me if it's on a shelf already.

I scanned my read and my to-read own books into Goodreads using my smartphone and the scanner app. You pick which shelves you want to put something on, and start scanning away. You can do up to 25 or 50 books at a time before you clear the memory and keep scanning. Takes some time, but it's kind of fun!

  2. I agree with you, you can easily get distracted from books by other books. Sometimes I really can't wait to get a novel but when I finally have it I just put it aside. Terrible but I can't do anything about it.
I really want to organize my books too. They are more or less on shelves but ever since I got a new shelf everything is such a muss and nothing has a place.

I wish you good luck and a happy New Year!

  4. Such great goals!! You should definitely join into my September Sequels Challenge this year to help with #2. I need to do more reading, not necessarily read faster like you say, but like you, stop letting tv and Facebook and Candy Crush and all that keep me from reading. Great goals! Thanks for stopping by my post earlier as well!
