Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is "Ten places books have made me want to visit (whether real or fictional)". I have a feeling I know what #1 is going to be for most people. It's probably what my #1 place is...

Hogwarts
(Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)

I'm pretty sure most people dream of going to Hogwarts. Since I never got my letter, maybe one day I can at least go to Florida to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Bavaria
(Forest of Whispers by Jennifer Murgia)

This is a historical fantasy about witches set in the Black Forest of Bavaria. Jennifer Murgia's gorgeous, descriptive writing inspired me to sit up for half the night Googling pictures of Bavaria. It's got gorgeous castles, quaint villages and lush forests. The place is straight out of a fairytale. Every season is breathtaking. Plus, yummy desserts.

Czech Republic
(Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor)

This book really made me want to visit the Czech Republic. Laini Taylor made me feel like I was there when I was reading. Also, I'm Czech, and one day I'd love to go there to see where my family came from.

Venice, Italy
(Dark Reflections trilogy by Kai Meyer)

Ok, so this takes place in an alternate/fantasy Venice where there is magic and mermaids lurk in the canals, but it still makes me want to go to Venice. I've been there and it's amazing. I miss it.

Scotland
(Outlander by Diana Gabaldon)

I'd like to touch every stone in the country to increase my odds of finding Jamie Fraser. And I guess the country is pretty, too, lol.

Narnia
(Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis)

Mostly because of the talking animals.

Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA
(Tombstone Tea by Joanne Dahme
Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard)

I know, this sounds weird, but hear me out. I've actually been there and it's beautiful. It's HUGE and they have all kinds of activities there. Tours, parties, concerts, an Easter egg hunt and even Tombstone Tea. A lot of movies filmed there and there it's rich in history. I could spend hours walking around enjoying the view and taking pictures, and I have.

The Renaissance Fair
(The Fair Folk series by Gillian Summers)

If you love the Ren Fair, you ABSOLUTELY MUST check out these books. They take place there and they are so good (and magical and fun)

Idris
(The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare)

So it's not a real place, but I'd still like to see where Shadowhunters call home. Lots of black clothing there, I'd fit in well.

Space
(Lots of books!)

Maybe someday I'll get there...

Where do you want to go?

  1. YES TO SPACE! Your list is just perfection. Gosh, I didn't even think of Idris or space and I really really want to go there too. My brain was kind of stuck in Europe. I just love the thought of Europe. I have Czech on my list too! Daughter of Smoke and Bone totally made me want to go there...hehe.

  3. I wish I'd picked Hogwarts and Narnia. And I see space which I can't believe I didn't think of! Italy I want to go to just because I'm Italian. Great list, and thanks for visiting my Top 10 earlier.
