Description from Goodreads

Many generations ago, a mysterious cataclysm struck the world. Governments collapsed and people scattered, to rebuild where they could. A mutation, "the Change,” arose, granting some people unique powers. Though the area once called Los Angeles retains its cultural diversity, its technological marvels have faded into legend. "Las Anclas" now resembles a Wild West frontier town… where the Sheriff possesses superhuman strength, the doctor can warp time to heal his patients, and the distant ruins of an ancient city bristle with deadly crystalline trees that take their jewel-like colors from the clothes of the people they killed.

Teenage prospector Ross Juarez’s best find ever – an ancient book he doesn’t know how to read – nearly costs him his life when a bounty hunter is set on him to kill him and steal the book. Ross barely makes it to Las Anclas, bringing with him a precious artifact, a power no one has ever had before, and a whole lot of trouble.

Why I'm excited

Oh, my goodness! How awesome does this book sound? While it's dystopian, it does not seem typical at all. I love the idea of a Wild West-like setting in a post-apocalyptic future, I think that's shiny. I've seen that Stranger features multiple POVs and a very diverse cast of characters, which is wonderful. This appears to be a fun adventure with a bit of creepyness (hello, scary trees!) that I can't wait to get my hands on! I will wait. Right here...

  2. Wow. This definitely peeks my interest! How cool. And you're right, it is pretty different for a dystopia. Also, digging that it's a male main character. Adding to my TBR pile now!! Thanks for the find!

  3. This book definitely sounds interesting. I hadn't heard of it. I do like the color scheme. It has a dystopian, but with the bounty hunter reminds me of someone running like Logan's run. Great pick.

    1. Grace, for some reason I have been unable to comment on your WoW post. I tried yesterday and again today. I'm on my phone and it's saying I have JavaScript disabled and have to paste in a code to comment. I've never had to before. Weird. Anyway, great pick. I really should read more contemporary books. I don't know why I don't, I always love them. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

  4. I still love dystopian, I don't care that there are so many out there. And this cover looks epic.

    Nice pick.

  5. It reminds me of The Eighth Day cover , haha. I'm not too keen on multiple perspectives, but if it's done well, then I'll love it. :)
