Poll: What Older Series Should I Start Next?

Ok, so here is where I have to admit that there are a few very BIG series that I have not started reading yet. For whatever reason, these amazing books slipped through the cracks. It's kind of embarrassing when people find out I haven't read these, so I want to fix this issue. The problem is, I don't know where to start! I can't decide which series I want to read first, and since I definitely want to read ALL of these, I figured I'd leave it up to YOU. I'll leave this poll up all week and announce the results in my It's Monday! post next week. I will read whichever book wins either next week or the following (depending on how caught up I am). I will also post this picture on Instagram and Twitter and combine the results with the poll below.

Here are the choices:

Can you believe I haven't read these?!

Make your decision based on any criteria you want. Pick your favorite, pick one you want a me to post a review of, pick one you think I NEED to read, pick one that sounds the most interesting or even pick the one with the prettiest cover. You can tell me why you made your decision or try to convince me to read your choice in the comments of you wish. My reading future is in your hands.

Just in case you aren't familiar with any of these:
(and if you are, scroll down for the poll!)

Across the Universe - Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone - one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship - tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

Angelfall -  It's been six weeks since the angels of the apocalypse destroyed the world as we know it. Only pockets of humanity remain.

Savage street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night.

When angels fly away with a helpless girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back...

Cinder - Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

The Darkest Minds - When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns - Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness. Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can't see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he's not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people's savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young. Most of the chosen do.

Legend- What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.

She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed.
There is.

She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

Choose wisely!

  1. I choose Cinder because I just recently started that series and that way I can see what you think at the same time that I'm reading it. :-)

  2. Cinder all the way! I hadn't wanted to read that series for such a long time but now that I did I can't wait for the last book to come out. I want to read Angelfall and The Darkest Minds too, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't read these books. I hope you'll enjoy the book that's gonna be voted. :)

  3. I had a hard time choosing! I LOVED Across the Universe, Legend, and Darkest Minds. Cinder and Angelfall, though, are two of my ALL-TIME favorites!!!!! I picked Angelfall. That way, you wouldn't have to wait very long for the series to be done (last book comes out next month). The last Lunar Chronicles book doesn't come out until November :(

  4. I'll be honest, of these I've only read Mara, Cinder and Across the Universe. Mara I loved and have finished the three books. Cinder I liked and haven't gotten round to the other books. Across the Universe I was underwhelmed with and I've decided I'm not going to continue. I have definitely been meaning to read Legend and The Darkest Minds too. I hope you enjoy whatever ends up being picked for you!

  5. The only one of these that I haven't read is Across the Universe.. That makes it so tough for me to choose because they're all favorites! But I have to say Darkest Minds.

  6. definitely Cinder!! I've only read until Scarlet. While I didn't completely enjoyed Scarlet, Cinder was an insta-fave for me. I plan to read Cress soon :) Legend is the other book that I've read from your list and I really enjoyed it as well. Legend is good but it gets better in the following books.

  7. Not even a close call with Angelfall. Then go with Cinder. My reasons?
    1. I liked Angelfall better.
    2. The next book in the series comes out in 2 weeks, whereas you have LOTS of time to wait for Winter.
As for the others... I have read The Darkest Minds series, and it was pretty good, but also the books are quite long. And I read Legend, but I barely remember them, which is unfortunate. Goodreads tells me I like them though ;)

Let me know which one you choose ;)

  11. This was a tough call. I ultimately voted for Mara Dyer because I've been telling you to read that series for a few months now. But I would have to agree that you NEED to read CINDER! So, get on both of those bandwagons! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!! :)
